A guided tour brings the Gallery to life

At AGWA, we’re lucky to have passionate Voluntary Gallery Guides who are dedicated to bringing the Gallery’s amazing and varied Collection to life through free guided tours.

There is nothing like a personal interaction to spark the imagination. Whether you’re a seasoned artistic traveller or apprentice explorer, our Voluntary Gallery Guides, offer that extra insight and revealing glimpse into the artwork, the era and the artist.

The Gallery Guides are at the heart of delivering AGWA’s artistic manifesto to see things differently. You can choose from a program of guided tours that run from short Art Snacks (lunch time tours) to longer thematic explorations of special exhibitions, as well as delving into key areas of the State Art Collection, such as Indigenous and Western Australian art.

Gallery Guides 40th Anniversary Celebration

Our Gallery Guides recently celebrated their 40th anniversary (1977-2017). There are 68 active guides who regularly present tours. Each new guide is trained for two years before they join the guided tour program that you can enjoy today. In October 2017, the Guides launched a publication and video celebrating this milestone.
